Saina started playing badminton when she was eight years old after her family moved to Hyderabad. She wanted to make friends and follow her mother’s dream of becoming a great badminton player.
- 2006: Saina became the under-19 national champion and won the Asian Satellite Badminton tournament twice. She was also the youngest player from Asia to win the Philippines Open.
