Personal life
Tyrese Maxey is one of four children, and he has three sisters. His father, Tyrone Maxey, worked as the director of player development at Southern Methodist University during the 2017-18 college basketball season, a school that tried to recruit Tyrese. During the NBA season, Tyrese lives in Voorhees Township, New Jersey. On Christmas Eve in 2021, his home in Voorhees caught fire while his family was visiting, but luckily no one was hurt. The Philadelphia 76ers helped Tyrese by providing a place to stay and other support.
Tyrese has been friends with fellow NBA player R. J. Hampton since childhood. Even though they grew up playing basketball in the same area, they were always opponents, never teammates. Tyrese is also part of a group of high school basketball stars from the Dallas–Fort Worth area, known as the “Baggage Claim Boys.” This group includes players like Isaac Likekele and Drew Timme, who became friends during their college recruitment process.
